Affiliate Disclosure
Every way this site makes money, in plain language.
Some of what you read on Miles makes us money in more than one way. Here is exactly how, so you can weigh our recommendations properly.
1. How Miles makes money
- We sell our own products. Meridian, Transit, Voltline and Redeye are designed and specified by Miles. We hold the inventory and take the full margin.
- We resell other makers. We buy stock from independent brands at wholesale and sell it here. We carry the inventory risk and earn a retail margin.
- We earn affiliate commission. Some links in the Journal — and a small number of product pages for items we do not stock — pay us a commission if you buy after clicking. It costs you nothing extra and never changes your price.
2. How you can tell which is which
Every product page carries one of three labels near the price: Made by Miles, Stocked by Miles, or Affiliate link. Journal articles that contain commissionable links carry a disclosure at the top of the article, above the first paragraph, not buried at the bottom.
3. Programmes we participate in
We participate in affiliate programmes operated by luggage, audio and electronics retailers, including large marketplace programmes. Where a programme requires specific wording, that wording appears on the page in question.
4. Our editorial rules
- Commission rate is never a factor in what we recommend or how we rank it. Testing results are.
- We buy the review samples we test. When a brand sends something free, we say so in the review and we do not keep it.
- We publish the things that failed. A product we stopped stocking stays on the site with a note explaining why.
- No brand gets copy approval, and no brand sees a review before it publishes.
- We do not accept payment for a positive review, a ranking position, or a “sponsored” placement dressed up as editorial.
5. Regulatory basis
This disclosure is made in line with the US FTC’s Guides Concerning the Use of Endorsements and Testimonials in Advertising (16 CFR Part 255), the UK CAP Code and the EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive.
6. Questions
If a disclosure anywhere on this site is unclear or missing, tell us at [email protected] and we will fix it and say what we changed.
